With Tchaikovsky’s famous and lyrically poignant score, the beloved ballet Swan Lake is a masterpiece depicting love, deception, and drama. White swan by day, human by night, the beautiful Odette awaits an oath of true love to break the curse. Performed by the unparalleled virtuosity of the Bolshoi Ballet, this stunning production stars lead ballerina Svetlana Zakharova as Odette/Odile, Denis Rodkin as Prince Siegfried and Artemy Belyakov as The Evil Genius.
The original production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1877, choreographed by Julius Reisinger. Today, many ballet companies base their productions of this classic on the 1895 revival by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Bolshoi Ballet’s new choreographic version of Swan Lake created by Yuri Grigorovich was first performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2015.
